Safe raw materials

Food Safety starts with safeguarding the quality of raw materials. Mycotoxins are considered a major threat to humans and animals. These poisonous compounds are formed on crops by fungal molds, and climate change is promoting this hazard. Efficient post-harvest drying of grain effectively reduces mycotoxin formation. In addition, grain cleaning solutions allow mycotoxin removal at an early stage of the value chain. Optical sorting rejects the highly contaminated grain fractions, but also eliminates foreign material like wood, plastic or glass.

Hygienic design

Good hygiene is essential for good manufacturing practice (GMP). Bühler is member of the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) and places strong emphasis on hygienic design. An example of outstanding hygienic design is the new Bühler flaking mill; where the design ensures good accessibility for efficient cleaning. But hygienic design also means placing special care on the materials. Our new Diorit roller mill features corrosion-free stainless steel of parts that are in contact with the food. Another example is the Nova sifter. Its design and material selection reduce the risk of flour contamination.
