Chocolate meets IoT: Bühler’s smart chocolate factory

The first Big Bang of the second day of Interpack focused on chocolate. For once, it wasn’t about making chocolate sweeter or smother, but smarter.

“This is revolutionary and a new era: We’re Implementing new emerging technologies and  take the first step toward the fourth industrial revolution,” announced Cornelia Koller, Bühler’s  IoT Champion Chocolate, during her presentation.

Bühler presented the self-optimizing smart chocolate factory, which points the way into the age of the Internet of Things (IoT), industry 4.0, and digitalization. Four game changing digital services for the traditional DoMiReCo line (dosing, mixing, refining, conching) will increase performance, reduce operational costs and keep quality at target. Furthermore, important information, such as details about the quality or performance, are accessible anytime and anywhere and allow smarter and faster decision making.
